Whereabouts do you live?
Tampa, FL, USA
Why did you start this business?
I started helping other busy ladies eat healthy, because I realized there was a lot I learned and I wanted to save other busy ladies from the mistakes that I made. I knew that I could help with the learning curve when it came to adding in more fresh foods when we’re used to serving boxed pastas, and other junky foods that we love. Basically how to make this transition simple and fun for those who want tasty healthy food but don’t feel called to be “suzie homemaker” and feel like a slave to the kitchen.
Tell me a little about what you do
I host a weekly radio show called, Fresh Eats Radio, where I talk the “real deal” when it comes to the struggles of cookin’ up a healthy meal to feed our family. It’s a show purely for the ladies. Topics range from dealing with picky eaters, craving junk foods, and how to make quick healthy meals. But beyond the practical, I LOVE to also show busy ladies how they can lose weight when everything else has failed. I’m not talking your typical diet mindset though…. but a rather often missed approach to loving our body first, combined with listening to what foods your body craves. One of the ways that I do this is with my seasonal “detoxes” where a group of us gather together over the digi world and rock this together. Something magical happens each time we gather together that makes this process so much easier, than if we did it alone.
What does a typical day at work look like?
Well because work is conducted at home… the two blend together and overlap.
Wake up slowly most days
Morning ritual… always make the bed. Used to be against this, but I’ve transformed and it’s become a sacred way to begin each day with intention.
Drink a BIG glass of water to hydrate and get my digestive system flowing
Decide what I feel like for Breakfast… usually a green juice, green smoothie, or sometimes chocolate cookies (sugar free and flour free of course)
Spend some casual time with our girls before we all start our day… usually talking while we sit looking out the windows, watching the sun over the lake and the birds (we homeschool my two teenage step daughters)
By 10:00am I usually get started with my work.
Ideally, I work for two hours and then eat lunch with the family.
After lunch I work until 5:00 when I start to make dinner and wind down.
Sometimes I work after dinner doing more mindless activities like creating graphics, uploading audio or social media content as I watch an hour of T.V. with the family. Because let’s face it, my brain is usually fried by then.
This sounds much more serene than it actually is… most days can feel a little choppy with my work to-do’s because we’re all at home together, and some days I’m transporting teens, helping them with an assignment, or assisting my hubs with his business. But on hectic days, hot herbal tea is always within each as well lavender essential oil.
When I’m working, my tasks are usually bulked for most efficiency.
Tasks include: marketing, interviewing, writing, group coaching, recipe creation, creative business planning
Somewhere in the midst of the day, I strive to do something just for me like walk outdoors, do yoga, take a hot bath, or read in the hammock.
Some days are a little messy, but I love it.
What exciting things are in store for your biz?
I’m taking things a bit slower for the Holidays… this is HUGE for me. But after the Holidays, we’re doing a group Post-Holiday Detox. I’m super excited about this, because it’s a fun way to learn how to eat healthy, or get back to your healthy habits in a way that is both fun & simple. One of the things I love hearing is how the ladies who do the detox are able to lose the stubborn weight that they haven’t been able to get rid of. They’re always surprised to learn that they’re not hungry, that they LOVED the recipes, and they were able to fit it in their busy schedule.
I’ll also be hosting another round of “A Loving Approach To Stubborn Weight Loss” this year.
What’s your favourite healthy gluten free treat?
Are you a juice or a smoothie girl? Favourite concoction?
I flip flop, because I like variety. I used to be a hardcore juice girl, but then I realized that I’m so in love with smoothies when I can sip them in a straw. I didn’t realize how much I am a texture girl.
How do you stay fit, happy and healthy?
Each morning I look at myself in the mirror and tell myself I’m beautiful. I love myself no matter what I eat, or how much I do or do not exercise. Health is mindset first in my opinion. Because no “diet” will work longterm if you don’t work on the core issues of loving yourself. Eating healthy or being fit should not be about punishment or perfection. It’s okay if you don’t exercise everyday, if you occasionally eat “junk food”, and that you don’t look like a cover model… because that shit ain’t real, so stop robbing yourself of joy.
Favourite healthy place to eat out?
Everyday… Sweet Tomatoes. But for a date or a treat… any nice restaurant as I can usually order fresh seasonal veggies and wild fish.
What advice do you have for anyone just starting out on a healthy diet?
I highly recommend starting out with my free guided “Body Love Meditation“. That, and try one of my seasonal detoxes for training and support. It’s a great way to jump in but with support. Kinda like on the job training 😉 So much faster than just reading or self teaching.
Surrounding yourself with like minded, supportive people is also a great way to get started. Like by subscribing to my Fresh Eats Radio podcast that includes free coaching by experts and also the free community, Fresh Eats Sisterhood.
