I’m loving turmeric this winter. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it my go-to herbal medicine for soooooo many issues, including joint pain, depression, and those nasty winter colds and flus. There are a lot of bugs going around town at the moment, so when I’m feeling run down, this Golden Milk is my simple, quick, prop-you-up-and-make-you-feel-strong drink – and it tastes pretty good too!
It’s super important to simmer the mixture – this “activates” the spices in order to release the active ingredients into the milk (the official term is a “decoction” – that’s herbal nerd speak for a brew that is boiled). Don’t skimp on this step – it will mean the difference between a warm drink and a powerful tonic.
250ml almond milk (or dairy free milk of your choice)
1/4 tsp good quality turmeric powder
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp honey
Let’s do this!
In a small saucepan over a medium heat, whisk the turmeric and cinnamon into the almond milk.
Bring it to the boil and then simmer, over a low heat, for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Pour into a cup or mug, stir in the honey and serve.
